What has your Board been up to?
The Current Board Members running for re-election are Steven Sanchez (Board member since 2022, son of the Board President, George Sanchez, Board member since 1993) and Rudy Rodriguez (Board member since 2010).
They have voted:
To put feminine hygiene products (tampons, Tampax, etc..) in ALL boys’ bathrooms TK-6th grade.
To add an additional month of celebration and teaching the LGBTQ+ history and heritage during the month of September in ALL FMSD schools (despite FMSD already recognizing the month of June for LGBTQ+ “Gay Pride Month”)
*NOTE that this intrudes on the celebration in FMSD schools National Hispanic Heritage Month (with almost 60% of our children and families being Hispanic)
*It also calls on ALL students in FMSD schools to recognize and participate in what the resolution stated: “…commemorates June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, October 11th as National Coming Out Day, October 17th as Spirit Day, November 20th as Transgender Day of Remembrance, and April 22nd as Day of Silence to honor the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community;” WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT!
To spend $50,000 of district money to buy Nintendo Game Boy switches for after school programs (what happened to books?)
To spend $250,000 on a distance-learning math tutoring program for after school programs with a company that has been in existence for ONLY 2 years.
*Superintendent did NOT put in place any means of accountability to see if the program helps our students’ math test scores improve.
*Distance learning DID NOT work, and even harmed our children’s learning during the 2+ years of Covid shut down!
To give teachers $0 pay raise for their next 3 years contract teaching in FMSD schools despite the Cost of Living (COLA) in Santa Clara County estimated to rise almost 4% yearly.

To conduct a survey with the purpose of closing neighborhood schools.
To invest money, hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, to survey, do land soil testing, etc… for property on Communication Hill for a prospective new school site for OVER 30 YEARS, and FMSD still does NOT HAVE A Letter of Intent to sell the property to FMSD from the land owners.
*Despite the fact that our student enrollment has dropped consistently in the past 14 years to today’s all-time low enrollment numbers.
To invest tens of thousands of dollars of FMSD money in an after-school program for biological girls and non-biological girls to learn how act like/be girls. (I thought that was for parents and cultures)
From one of their reviews: “(we are) welcoming all girl-identifying youth as well as non- binary and gender-nonconforming youth; and
(We are) framing lessons to counter gender stereotypes that negatively impact girls’ self-esteem, motivation, and health.”

Voted to censure Trustee Cooper for simply sharing at a open to the public event the Test Scores of the FMSD in response to many parents in FMSD stating, “I didn’t know that.”
To do nothing and to continue to watch test score/learning in Science, Math, Reading and Writing consistently go DOWN the past 10 years to where they are the lowest ever in FMSD history: 80% of FMSD students are NOT at grade level in Science; 73% of FMSD students are NOT at grade level in Math; 65% of FMSD students are NOT at grade level in Reading and Writing.
To put on the November 2024 ballot a Property Tax increase proposal raising property taxes in FMSD $191. Per year.
*The per student expenditure (money for students’ education per pupil) is the highest it has ever been. It has consistently gone up the past 10 years, yet education for our students has consistently gone DOWN! More money does NOT fix the problems!
*In 2022, it was $19,652 per student while the California average was $17,281.
*Rental and Private Property in San Jose is already too expensive for most!
