Notes from the Board Meeting - 8/12/2025

At the last FMSD Board meeting on 8/12/2025 items of interest were presented and voted on:

• FMSD CFO Jason Vann presented a revised 26-27 projected school budget with at least 9 million dollar deficit and negative balance in our Reserve account.

  • Trustee Cooper (me) requested to pull Consent Items to discuss, ask questions about, and to object to if needed.

• Consent Item 7.13 Ratification of Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) with East Valley Schools Transportation Agency (EVSTA) for FMSD students $1,315,658.00. (seems very excessive for only 40 students in our district!)

• Consent Item 7.14 Ratification of the 2025-2026 Contract with Rising Star SPED Academy, Non-Public School (NPS) for 1 FMSD student $188,670.80.(not including transportation cost)

• Consent Item 7.17 Ratification of Purchase from Lakeshore for TK Classrooms for the 2025-2026 School Year $137,347.54 (for classroom furniture and supplies for 4 TK classrooms)

• Consent Item 7.21 Ratification of the 2025 Contract with Ro Health, L.L.C. for Nursing $673,200.00 for 2 nurses serving 7 FMSD students.

I ABSTAINED when voting. The other 4 Board members voted YES! I ABSTAINED from voting on ALL 4 Consent Items because the total for the 4 Consent Items was $2,314,876.34! We should be look for every mean possible to be more frugal and responsible in our spending with a projected 9 million dollar deficit and a negative Reserve balance!
